Single Knee Drill
You will need a tee, mat, fence, t-ball bat
Start by removing the top insert from the tee. Using the bottom half of the tee, set it up in front of protected softball fence. Protected means that you should try to use a pad that hangs on the fence to prevent the balls from getting cut or the player catching a ricochet.
Put the softball mat down on the hitter’s side of the tee, towards the back half of the plate. The hitter should be facing and hitting into the padded fence area. Have the hitter kneel on their back knee. The front leg should be straight out in front towards the pad. For the next step, I use a t-ball or very light softball bat depending on age and strength. The player will be using one hand to swing and you do not want the bat to be too heavy.
Have the player go to hand’s ready position and then remove the left hand(right handed hitter) completely from the bat, then drop the left arm across the torso. The left hand and arm should be flat against the body-around chest high. Using only the right hand, swing and strike at the ball. The hitter needs to focus on driving the right hand through the ball.
Be attentive, the hitter should not drop the head of the bat below the hands and back shoulder. This drill, if done correctly, will assist in building the right side of the swing through impact. As with any hitting drill, please make sure the girls have helmets on.
